What is CA 125?

CA 125 is a protein found on the surface of some cancer cells, particularly those of ovarian cancer. A CA 125 blood test measures the level of this protein in your blood.

While elevated levels of CA 125 can be a sign of ovarian cancer, it’s important to note that it can also be elevated in other conditions, such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, pregnancy, and certain non-cancerous conditions of the ovaries.

Therefore, a high CA 125 level alone is not a definitive diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Further testing and medical evaluation are necessary to confirm a diagnosis.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer:

• Persistent bloating
• Feeling full quickly and/or loss of appetite
• Pelvic or abdominal pain
• Needing to wee more often or urgently than usual
